The Reverse, designed by Timothy Noad, features a new interpretation of the Royal Coat of Arms. The design features the quartered shield of the United Kingdom, surmounted by a royal crown, topped by a golden lion. The date 2022 appears at the base of the coin.

A Piedfort Sovereign is twice the thickness and weight of a standard Sovereign. Originally produced in France during the twelfth century, piedfort coins were primarily used as presentation pieces or patterns.
