1818 Half Sovereign
Unlike the one Sovereign, the reverse was designed by William Wyon and features an angular shield containing the Ensigns Armorial of the United Kingdom. It featured the new 'milled edge' to minimise clipping of coins and had a face value of 10 shillings. The 1818 series of half Sovereigns includes a notable and probably the first overdate error on the modern sovereign series. The overdate 1818/7 with the second figure 8 being entered over a 7, a very rare and remarkable overdate, seldom seen.

1818 One Sovereign
Both the Obverse & Reverse are by Benedetto Pistrucci, the Reverse featuring the iconic George & Dragon, a true masterpiece which has featured regularly on the sovereign up and until the present day. The 1818 sovereign is a lower mintage sovereign than the earlier 1817 one, with five varieties to keep the eagle eyed collector on their toes! Look out for the ascending and descending colon varieties and wiry curls examples with differing obverse legends. The proof variety rarely seen and a real gem...
