Gold Edward III Treaty Period Noble, Fourth Coinage, Calais Mint and without Flag.
Obverse:
King standing in ship with upright sword and quartered shield. Without flag and omitting FRANC in legend, group A with saltire before c of Edward in legend. Ships rigging ropes 3/2 Quatrefoils 3/2. Beaded circle surrounding legend.
Reverse:
C at centre of ornamental cross with lis terminals, crowns over lions at cross junctions contained within beaded border, with fleurs in spandrels.
Condition:
Beautifully toned example, struck on a good round flan with beautifully preserved detail. Piercing portrait of the kings head with crisp and clear detail on the quartered arms shield. Some softer areas that hardly detract from the stunning eye appeal of this rarer type coin.
